May 2, 2015(Nyamilepedia) — According to the latest reports from Norther Upper Nile, the SPLA-IO has retaken Amdelwich, a town they controlled in norther part of Renk County for more than a year until the government reclaimed it last week.
SPLA-Juba launched one of the heaviest attacks on Amdelwich, killing scores of SPLA-IO soldiers and reclaimed the town in the last week of April, 2015.
According to the military intelligence sources in Renk, the government brigadier general, Stephen Buay Rolnyang, ordered his troops to retake the rebels’ strongholds in the county to improve the security status of his headquarters in Renk town.
The security analyst, who closely monitored the situation and participated in the operation, believes that Gen. Buay was pressured from Juba to send a reinforcement to restore Malakal town after a militia warlord, Gen. Johnson Olony of Chollo tribe, claimed the government headquarters; however, Gen. Buay was worried that the SPLA-IO may exploit the gap to attack his headquarters.
The reliable sources confirm that part of the government troops and weapons that were used to capture Amdelwich were retreated within 24 hours to Renk Headquarters.
After the rebels learned the opponent’s strategy, they planed two major revenge attacks on Amdelwich yesterday.
The insider claims that the rebels’ attacks aimed to cut off the government’s remnant forces in the area to Sudanese border.
According to a soldier, who has been wounded in this battle, the rebels have captured many weapons and killed scores of government soldiers.
He confirms that the SPLA-IO forces returned to Amdelwich town yesterday.
