June 13, 2015(Nyamilepedia) — The South Sudan’s former Vice President, Dr. Riek Machar Teny, who is making use of every glimpse of opportunities in Johannesburg, SA, has made major progresses on behave of the country and his movement within the last two day.
The proud Command-in-Chief of the armed Opposition, Dr. Machar, announces on his social media page on Saturday evening that he “discussed in details” the issues of peace in South Sudan with Ambassador Jan Eliasson, the Deputy Secretary General to the United Nation.
“This afternoon in South Africal; I met with Amb. JAN ELIASSON, the United Nations’ Deputy Secretary General and discussed in details with him the issues of peace in South Sudan and the great role being play by the UN in resolving the crisis in the country. ” Said Dr. Riek Machar.
On the sideline, Machar also met President Idriss Deby Itno, the President of the Republic of Chad, today in Johannesburg, to discuss ways to end the raging conflict in his country.
The Republic of Chad is joining the South Sudan Peace Talks as one of the IGAD-Plus countries representative Central African region.
Machar and his colleagues in the opposition are rallying for peace and stability to return to the war-torn South Sudan.
“Always, the entire leadership of SPLM/A is in interest of peace to return back to our country to avert killings and violations of human rights.” Dr. Machar said.
In addition to parallel meetings, Machar and his delegation are polishing a long draft statement of the speech that the chairman of the armed Opposition will present to the Assembly of Heads of States and Government during the final round of the African Union.
The Chairman of the armed Opposition is believed to have also pursued the release of the African Union Reports on Crimes and Atrocities committed in the current conflict in South Sudan.
Credible sources reiterates that the AU’s Commission of Inquiry Report will be officially released in mid July, 2015.
Kiir Arrives “Healthy and Strong”
Latest reports from Johannesburg, South Africa, confirm that the South Sudan President, Salva Kiir Mayardit, has finally arrived this afternoon.
Asked of his health condition by journalists at the airport while leaving Juba, the seemingly sick president assures the masses that he is OK.
“I am okay. There is no problem.” Kiir briefly noted in a report that was broadcasted to the nation through SSTV.
After the rumors of Kiir’s sickness, the Press Secretary and other officials have kept the nation calm, clarifying in series of reports that were broadcasted on SSTV with the theme “Strong and Healthy”.
Although the president believes that he has “resurrected”, it is yet to be verified if he is prepared enough to present the country at the summit.
According to many analysts at the Summit, the Twenty Fifth (25th) Ordinary Session of the African Union on both Sunday and Monday will be intensively dominated by debates on conflicts in the continent with much emphases on South Sudan’s political and civil war.
The deadly conflict in South Sudan has gained the attention of the African Union, UN, TROIKA and partners.
The recently formed IGAD-PLUS, which features the eight members states of IGAD countries, five additional African states (South Africa, Nigeria, Algeria, Chad, and Rwanda), representatives of the United Nations, TROIKA and EU will be officially recommended at the summit.
According to political analysts it will be the first time in the history that the continent gives a red carpet to a rebel leader to attend its summit.
The participation of Machar, who has represented the world’s newest nation in many forums including the UN General Assembly, is seen as a big blow by Salva Kiir government.
Juba remains in loggerhead with many organizations and governments including the United Nations and the United States for equal treatments and blames on the two warring parties.
In April, the Secretary General of the United Nations, Ban ki Moon, called for the transfer of IDPs from government control areas to rebel controlled territories.
