Changson, Chagor disrupting unity of opposition alliance – Bapiny Manytuil

July 3rd 2019 (Nyamilepedia) – The leader of South Sudan Liberation Movement (SSLM/A), General Bapiny Manytuil Wijang, has accused ex-chairman of South Sudan Opposition Alliance (SSOA), Gabriel Changson Chang and the interim chairman of South Sudan United Movement (SSUM), Hon. Denay Jock Chagor, of disrupting the unity of the alliance.

This came after the two men released a statement on Tuesday saying Changson, the ex-chairman has relinquished the leadership of the alliance and Chagor has taken over for six months. The same statement further said Changson will take over the leadership again after six months.

Speaking to Nyamilepedia on Wednesday, General Manytuil who is a founding member of the opposition umbrella accused Changson and Chagor of disrupting the unity of the alliance saying the two men tried to divide the opposition consortium in their favor last year.

“In October last year [or] 2018 the same Changson and Denay were trying to divide the SSOA in order [to] achieve their selfish interest[s], the fact was that, they [are] against the unity of SSOA,” Manytuil told the Nyamilepedia in an interview on Wednesday.

He accused Changson and Chagor’s two groups of pursuing tribal agendas, which he said will never help the world’s youngest nation to reform, saying Changson has no powers to appoint his successor without the approval of the rest of alliance members.

“The vision and mission of the two parties FDP and SSUM is a tribal agenda that will not help our country to reform …… Changson has no mandate to appoint Denay in his way of doing things without coalition parties,” Manytuil said.

Last week, an opposition spokesman allied to Changson told Nyamilepedia in an interview that Changson had relinquished the SSOA leadership and that Josephine Lagu of People’s Democratic Movement (PDM) had been selected to temporarily lead the group until a new leader is elected.

In an interview with the Nyamilepedia on Wednesday as well, Lagu who maintained that she is the legitimate acting SSOA leader said they have not agreed to elect or approve Chagor, saying Changson had taken an unilateral decision in the matter and said they will meet this evening and issue a new statement.

“No we have not [agreed to Chagor’s appointment as SSOA leader]. SSOA leaders are going to have a meeting this evening and will thereafter release a statement,” she told the Nyamilepedia.

For his part, Jacob Lado Paul, an opposition spokesman allied to NAS factional leader, General Khalid Butrus, said the opposition alliance has not met to elect a new leader calling the statement by Changson and Chagor fake.

“The Press Release of Mr. Changson Chang … is fake and not true. Nothing such that SSOA elected the person he mentioned as a new head,” Paul said.

Changson along with Chagor aren’t going in the right way by doing unilaterally.
