Jan 27, 2015(Nyamilepedia) — South Sudan is in a panic mode tonight as high military officials composing of the Chief of General Staff and his deputies order the arrest of Pariang Commanding officer, Col. Achuil Mathiang Kiirnaar.
Achuil’s arrest follows a fierce fighting in Unity State last week between the South Sudan army, SPLA, and the rebels of the SPLM/iO supported by the Sudanese army. The fighting which took place at the western part of Ruweng County at Toma South, Aliiny Payam, lasted for three days.
The fighting was allegedly instigated by the rebels after they reportedly attacked and set ablaze oil facilities.
Attempts bytheSPLA, under the general command of Col.Achuil to extinguish the explosive fire which threatened to destroy oil reserves worth of billions of dollars was allegedly met with steep-resistance mounted by the South Sudan’sSPLA-IO, rebel faction.As fighting raged on for three days, the SPLA, under the general command of Col.AchuilMathiang,were overran by theSPLA-IO fighters. As a result, two tanks, one with deflated wheels and another which had run out of fuel, were seized by theSPLA-IO.Expectedly, the generals at Bilpam were disappointed by the massive loss of weapons, the tanks and personels.
Achuil and his army of volunteers who have never been paid since February have become object of military wrath at Bilpam. What is surprising, however, is why Achuil and his army who were supporting the cause of the government and people of South Sudan, by protecting the most important national resource there is at the moment, were to bear moral blemish.
Besides the loss of tanks, insiders have also revealed that the generals have accusedAchuil of taking orders from senior oil ministry officials, namely PaulAdongBith and the Minister of Oil and Mining, StephenDhieuDau.This news, however, has not been received well both in Juba and at the frontline, in the region of Ruweng County, which sits on major oil reserves in Unity State.
The general concerns in Juba and around South Sudan is that, should Panaruu be angered, as this is likely to be the case, they might be forced to abandon their support to the government. The result is one that might tip the scale in favour of the rebels in this conflict.

Yes, making any arrest to some body who was defeated is not a solution. How many tanks burn under Jongelie war? how Tanks got burned under unity war before this incident? how many tanks got losses in Nasir Battle? how many Tanks got burn in Malakal Batle? etc and you did not arrest anybody. this might be politically motivated.

The arrest of my father doesn’t give a good image to government of south Sudan, thus I as the son of john achuil Mathiang urge the government of south Sudan to release my father immediately, it was not my father fall it was the government fall since the government doesn’t provide enough facilities to the panrieng county and doesn’t even paid them salaries, my father have never been accused of failing to do what is needed by the Government since our straguling as the nation
