April 10, 2015(Nyamilepedia) — According to the latest SPLM/SPLA Press Statement, read by Capt. Mabior Garang de Mabior, the Chairman of National Committee for Information and Public Relation, in Nairobi this afternoon, more SPLA cadres have defected Salva Kiir government.

“The Spokesman of the SPLM/SPLA makes the following statement to our supporters, the masses of our people and the world at large” Mabior breaks the news.

According to Capt. Mabior, the SPLM/SPLA leadership announces the defection of the following SPLA soldiers from Salva Kiir’s SPLA faction:

  1. Gen. Gabriel Gatwic Puoch Mar,
  2. Cde. Agel Riing Machar,
  3. Maj. (Rtd) Simon Awas Pidomoi,
  4. Capt. Benjamin John Baptista, and;
  5. Capt. Michael Thiik Ke’nyan.

Although Brig. Gen. Gatwech is yet to announce the size of his troops, Capt. Mabior is confident that the defecting general is a renowned fighter, who has fought intensively during the liberation war against the Khartoum regimes.

“Brig. Gen. Gatwic is a renowned military general with extensive experience in the service. He is a great son and a patriot who has dedicated his life to the cause of liberation in order to alleviate the suffering of the people of South Sudan from successive Khartoum based regimes in the past; and currently from the Administration of Salva Kiir.” The Spokesman, Capt Mabior affirms.

Mabior further congratulates Cde. Agel Riing Machar, who defected two weeks ago, for making the bold decision.

“Cde. Agel Riin Machar is a known Youth Activist in South Sudan who has served in various capacities. He is, however most notably known for being the Chairperson for the Political Parties Youth Forum, and for being the former President of the South Sudan National Youth Union.” Mabior said.

According to Capt. Mabior, the other individuals, listed above, did not attend the today’s declaration in Nairobi, Kenya, due to logistical reasons, however, their allegiance has been well received by the rebels.

“Maj. (Rtd) Simon Awas Pidomoi, Capt. Benjamin John Baptista and Capt Michael Thiik…. They, however, could not miss this opportunity to tender their rejection of the Administration of Salva Kiir. The SPLM/SPLA welcomes these Comrades to the People’s Movement for fundamental change in our country.” Mabior reiterates.

Mabior further confirms that the SPLM/SPLA, despite the overwhelming news of more defection and rejection of Salva Kiir Administration, remains committed to the Addis Ababa and Arusha initiatives.

The spokesman also urges the region and the international community to use all means at their disposal to persuade the Salva Kiir administration to return to the negotiating table in good faith.

“The SPLM/SPLA would also like to take this opportunity to renew its call for the release of the AU Report and implementation of targeted sanctions.” Capt. Mabior continued.

The Statements by Gen. Gatwich Puoc and by Cde. Agel Machar shall follow shortly.

It is good to declare to joint rebel but it hard to succeed the goals. Going to Nairobi Kenya is becoming fashion for curropted Brig general like Gatwich pouch, if you want to rebel why don’t in front line and hotels.

Wait a minute Mr. Balang Tutute because I want to reminder you for the past Nasir faction failure..

Remember in 1991, when the majority of Nuers have defected with high morality to follow Dr. Riek Machar Teny and the person which had been remain with the late chairman of the SPLA/SPLM was general former chief of staff Mr. James Hoth Moi. All 99.9% of Nuers in the SPLA at that time defected with former Nasir leader now, he is abandoning the name of Nasir movement any more. I think when all Nuers decided to follow his tribal leader Dr. Riek Machar Teny this is how the failure will come because the rest of Southern Sudanese people will probably view that, as a tribal war and they would neither stayed homes or takes right choices.

I think our people have dies by mistakes, because I can see there is no true when people are dancing between Juba and the Ethiopia’s hotel thereafter, whoever claims, they are all greed and those generals are interesting only to get million dollars in order to take side on the other side of the government or rebels this is a cycle conflict that has been connected with business to get rich and denying innocents dying daily, desperation of leadership, lies that citizens are being fools to fights they war which they were not aware in the first place.

Please keep singing about those claims to be generals but they are confusing the situation just to get worst if you guys thinks the defection of all Nuers ethnic to rebels will make former vice president winning the war then, you joking if that is the case then, the whole Dinka tribe will back Salva Kiir Mayardit and the real genocide will happen if all Dinkas supporting Salva Kiir Mayardit for war.

If it wasn’t foreigners fighters, Salvatore Kiir would had been dead or refugee in a foreign country long ago and killing would have been already stopped.

The good thing is this, the man call Salva Kiir is innocent! he want country to move to good direction but he lack ideas how to do it. and no wise man in the all whole world who can compare Dr. John Garang leadership with Salva leadership because of so many gap between two men, it is true that all are dinkas but different personal.
So what the problems? problems are group who associated themselves with Salva namely Dinka elders, Salva is not Dinka President to have Dinka advisors therefore would have been much better if they could have come out with south Sudan elders.
Now Dinka are yieling day and night say, one nation one country one President. I think you are toying with fire one time one day 63 out of 64 will come united and will say one word two times which is enough is enough, even if all Dinka with their foreigners armies fighting in the country today back up Salva Kiir, they will not stop the wave of 63 tribes so we don’t need to go that way. Therefore the early correction we do the better we become.

I encourage more defections so that the corrupt government in Juba should feel.

    My friends,
Why is it that when someone defects to Machar, s/he becomes a visionary leader before the ink dries on the declaration of defection! But, when they are in the government, they are visionless and money lovers or food lovers. Anyways, the point is that Brig. Gen. Gatwech Puoch complained that he was not promoted with those promoted last month as Major-Generals in the likes of Nhial Batoang, Buay Rolnyang, etc. It is my believe that he lobbied and his name was added to the list of those to be promoted, but it didn’t make it through to the final end for two reasons. First, the promotion was meant for those who are either on special assignments or are currently engaged in confrontation with the rebels. He was in Wau and was never in either of those situations. Second, Gatwech is in shell six by SPLA hierarchy and those in Shell Six are actually still Colonels. Even those in Shell five and four are still colonels up to now. However, when he was assigned in Khartoum during the interim period as part of National Security team representing South Sudan, he was promoted there by “Jalaba” as Brigadier. That is how he got the rank he has today. Otherwise, there is no reason for him to supersede those in higher shells than him unless he either joins Riek group or militias.
In any case, he has the right to his decision. I hope he gets what he wants when he returns by the time peace comes to South Sudan.

You have mentioned exactly what I was to write, you are really well informed of what is taking place in South Sudan, what I have seen is now a fasion in South Sudan that if I am not promoted or been fired from my job and also developed some misunderstanding, the only way is to run to Riek’s tribal rebelion to get high job with no pay only confortable with title.
Should I decide to join Riek’s tribal rebelion today, I may also demand to be diplomate or Brig. general coz Riek is there to give you any position you want regardless of neither education nor Training knowing you work with no pay.

For those who does not know Gabriel Gatwiech Pouch well he is a former member of Nagat group who joint SPLM/A 1988 under Gordon Kong Chuol, he was commissioned 2nd Lt. shield six 1989. In 1991 he was part of Dr Riek Machar Nasir decoration and 1997 so called khartoum agreement, He is currently Brigader and his colleage are now Lt.col. In SPLA, do you know why? because Gatwiech is type of people who are greed for higher rank, that why he defected several times.
among the reasons of his defection today because his is not been promoted to Maj. General in recent promotions.
Gatwiech Pouch since he was commissioned to rank of 2nd Lt. till to rank of Brigader he never command any forces in battle field his was logistic officer in division 3 base in Wau.
If he was commander of SPLA forces in Lake state, as he claimed.
How come a senior officer defect with out even his body guard, and declared his defection in hotel in foreign country.
Gatwiech Pouch is not a field officer that people can celebrate his defection.

“How come a senior officer defect with out even his body guard, and declared his defection in hotel in foreign country.” This is a good question but I am not getting involve with the rest of your comment yet.

      • April 10, 2015 at 9:21 pm

GatNor why are high ranking officers defecting without army?

Because they couldn’t agrees with soldiers to be follow to bush and they chose their own ways to defected to rebels or government as you see some generals are fighting to get highest ranks and others are fighting to become a governors and more others are looking for leadership of presidency and the cabinets this is all about desperation and greed.

    • April 10, 2015 at 10:04 pm

This man call Gatwech Pouch Mar is complaining about promotion which was done last Month only ranks who were in front-line but he had been stayed in Wau, capital of Western Bahr el Ghazal State for years and he has never went to fight supposed to thank president for getting pay without operation since the Juba conflict began. He want to be promoted to major general and their colleagues are still in Lt, col. A shameful on him

One way or the other I agree with Gatwec’s defection since he has defended the Jaang Kingdom for nearly 2yrs now without promotion and no clear future in a system that only favors and serves only the interest of a few (nepotistic) families and their ethnics. Secondly if a system is dominated by people who practice doctrines of revenge by holding on to hold grudges of ’88, ’91 of the confused 21 yrs liberation wars amongst southerners and with Jalaba, well what is the future for those like gatwec and many Nuers who are treated as enemy of such system having to endure daily reminders that they are traitors by Jaang in a country they help liberate. The way I see it according to Jaang, the Nuers are damned if they are loyal and damned if they are not loyal to any Jaang system. Knowing this fact one need not lie to himself. It is better to burn this Jaang kingdom to the ground as Mr. Kim Deng would say.

  13. April 10, 2015 at 9:18 pm

haha, defection of Nuer general is not something new.
It is routine and you will hear him again next month denouncing Riek in Juba hotel.
Mark my words, if you don’t see him in Juba next month.

I am so confusing about my people Nuer which I don’t understand why always someone use them as tool even though someone his own brother was killed by Kiir in Juba still supporting the government and see the Dinka elders acting like children supporting their tribal president not the president of SSudan. Kiir is Dinka president what I mean is not all the Dinka just those who favorite the name of Dinka as community and those who benefit from Kiir leader I never heard special tribal elder make apart of leadership just just my brothers Dinka. We have long way to go Kiir use all oil money to buy all poison weapon to complete his journey to wipe up Nuer community but will never never happen. We are fighting whole eastern Africa nation and we are still exist. You guys you better keep silent no one can choose to go to buses without reason but someone will be willing to tell the truth because the always hard to tell truth.
