May 21, 2015(Nyamilepedia) — The government of the Republic of South Sudan has recently intensified attacks on villages and forced tens of thousands residents of Guit, Mayom, Leer and Panyijier counties of Unity State to flee their homes to the bushes. The UN has reported an indiscriminate killing of innocent civilians by the regime, villages burned to ashes, children targeted and abducted, and young girls and women raped.
While the act has been condemned worldwide, I urged the world body to take measures to stop the government’s atrocities and arrest the humanitarian crisis in the affected counties in Unity and Upper Nile States. It is deplorable to learn that the South Sudan Embassy in Washington DC is not only denying the obvious, but blaming their failure on the people. A press release issued by the embassy on May 13 has shown to the public that this government is not exerting serious effort to avert crisis.
We condemn the regime’s act in the strongest possible terms and should not be tolerated by the international community. We call on the IGAD, African Union, European Union, Troika, and the United Nation to condemn the killing of civilians. These deliberate acts constitute war crimes and crimes against our whole humanity.
We stand firm by our commitment to resolve the conflict peacefully and we reject any labeling of the movement as a ‘negative force’ as declared by the Heads of State and Government of the International Conference on the Great Lakes Region (ICGLR). We strongly believe that it is important for the Troika countries (US, UK, and Norway) to be directly engaged in the negotiations to help speed up an end to the suffering of the people of South Sudan.
