War In Western Bhar el Ghazal State, South Sudan

May 31, 2015(Nyamilepedia) —- Latest reports from Western Bhar el Ghazal State, South Sudan, allege that the warring parties have been engaged this morning in heavy battles at Bazia county, a distant of appoximately 48 kilometers away from the state capital, Wau.
According to the deputy spokesperson in the office of the chairman, Mr. Nyarji Jermlili Roman, who is in direct contact with the SPLA-IO governor of Wau State, Mr. Tingo Peter, rebels have taken control of Bazia county and seized the army barracks and police headquarters.
“Our forces were able this morning in western Bahr el Ghazal under command of let. Colonel Joseph Benson and let. Colonel giabi amberto to seize Bazia county around 48 miles south of the city of waw” Nyarji said.
“We seized control of the army Barack in the area and police headquarters and the local area administration office” he continues.
According to the anti-government forces in the area, the rebels have captured 16 AK47 and other light weapons.
“We managed to capture 16 pieces of AK47 and other weapons and arrested 4 soldiers from government militias.” he said.
To contain panic in a state that has been relatively calm for the last 16 months, the government officials in the area have shutdown the network system in the state capital.
With exception of Satellite phones, attempts to reach many residents and government officials through cellphone have failed.
South Sudan conflict, which has ranged on for 16 months, continues to escalate to many areas in the country that have been relatively calm. While tension remains in Western Equatoria state, residents of Lake state are on high alert that the rebels may attack the state any time.
