After South Sudan Peace Talks Collapsed IGAD Promises “Reforms and Reinvigoration” To Achieve Peace by July 2015.
March 6, 2015(Nyamilepedia) — Frustrated that the South Sudanese leaders have failed to restore stability in their country for the last 15 months, the Intergovernmental Authority on Development, IGAD, has warned to reform and reinvigorate the entire peace process to achieve the most needed peace and stability of South Sudan and the region.
“Our efforts cannot continue unaltered and expect a different outcome; the peace process must be reinvigorated and reformed” Said H.E. Hailemariam Dessalegn, the Prime Minister of Ethiopia and the Chairperson of IGAD Assembly to the people of South Sudan.
“In the coming days, I will consult with my colleagues, the IGAD leaders, partners and friends in the region, on the continent and beyond to agree a common plan of action” Prime Minister Dessalegn assured the affected populations of South Sudan.
According to the Ethiopian Premier, the IGAD and Partners will devise effective strategies that will hold the warring parties to their commitments to form the Transitional Government of National Unity before July, 2015.
“Together, we will hold the Parties to their commitment to form a transitional government by July of this year. To achieve that goal, IGAD, joined by the friends of South Sudan from Africa and abroad, intends to implement a common plan and table a reasonable and comprehensive solution to end the crisis in South Sudan” Prime Minister Dessalegn elaborates.
Prime Minister Dessalegn emphasizes that the region and the international community stand with the people of South Sudan, and that the world shall speak with one voice to restore peace and stability.
“While the Parties may see the peace talks as a process that can continue indefinitely, you, the people of South Sudan, the millions directly affected by the conflict, know that pace is needed, and is needed now”. said the Chairperson of IGAD assembly, Prime Minister Dessalegn.
“At the highest level, the world must speak with one voice on South Sudan. We will assist the Parties to make the compromises that have so far eluded them.” Dessalegn continues.
The regional bloc promises that the voices of majority of South Sudanese people must prevail over that of their leaders who remain in loggerheads.
“We will use all influence at our disposal to convince those that remain intransigent. And we will ensure that the voices of the silent majority of South Sudanese prevail: peace, reform and justice” The Prime Minister said.
PM Dessalegn encourages the South Sudanese people to take initiatives to support dialogue, peace and reconciliation.
“We ask you the people to refuse to support those who militate for war, destruction and killing. We want you, the people, to be unequivocal with your leaders: choose reconciliation and not injustice; choose dialogue and not rigidity. Choose peace and not conflict.” Prime Minister Dessalegn continues.
“My dear brothers and sisters, do not lose hope. The region and the world, stand with you. Peace is our only priority. Peace will be achieved. You, the people of South Sudan, need and deserve no less.” He concludes.
