April 6, 2015(Nyamilepedia) — The Leadership and Members of the SPLM/SPLA are seriously alarmed by the recent actions of the State of Qatar towards the people of South Suadn. The SPLM/SPLA is particularly concerned about a loan recently extended to the Administration of President Salva Kiir by the State of Qatar amounting to 500,000 Million USD. It has come to the attention of the SPLM/SPLA that the first remittance of this loan has been received by the Salva Kiir Administration in Juba.
The SPLM/SPLA would like to take this opportunity to counsel the Government of the State of Qatar to seriously reconsider giving financial assistance to the Administration of Salva Kiir. This loan facility will not be used by the Administration for development; it will be used instead, to continue the war of attrition on the people of South Sudan. This is evident from the government’s abandonment of the Addis and Arusha Peace Initiatives, and the President’s recent statements during his latest public rally in Juba.
The best way that the Government of the State of Qatar can extend a hand of friendship to the people of South Sudan is not by financing the war. The best way the Government of the State of Qatar could show solidarity with the people of South Sudan is by using their influence to persuade the Salva Kiir Administration in Juba to return to the negotiating table and engage in honest dialogue.
The SPLM/SPLA remains committed to the Addis Ababa and Arusha initiatives to bring peace to our war torn country, and respectfully urge the Government of the State of Qatar, the region and the world to use all means at their disposal to persuade our partners in peace to return to the negotiating table. The SPLM/SPLA takes this opportunity to renew its call for the release of the AU Report and implementation of targeted sanctions.
The Movement would also wish to take this opportunity to remind members to remain vigilant and not lose hope, we must focus on the Addis and Arusha Processes which will be legally binding and which shall ultimately bring peace to our country.
