June 09, 2015(Nyamilepedia) — Latest reports from South Sudan’s Unity State allege that, at least, six government officials were killed this morning in an ambush in Koch County of Unity State.
According to military sources of SPLM/SPLA [IO], the ambush has claimed the recently appointed commissioner of Unity State’s Leer County, Mr. Wal Yach Gatkuoth, and five other officials who are yet to be identified.
“The recently appointed commissioner of Unity state’s Leer county by cheaper Caretaker Governor Nguen Mounytuil and 5 other officials were killed in an ambush laid by SPLM/A-IO forces around Miermier payam of Koch county.” the military report of IO reads.
According to Lat Kuem, who speaks on behave of the rebels in the state, the deceased commissioner was killed while trying to penetrate his way to Leer County where he was recently assigned to start up his operations.
The source reiterates that this was the third time that Commissioner Yach tried to command troops into Leer County.
“When government troops penetrated and tried to attack Leer county for the third time with orders from the deceased commissioner as he opted to live in Leer.” he said.
According to the insiders in Koch County, who leaked intelligence to SPLA-IO forces, the deceased commissioner has been kidnapping school-age children in the county for training in undisclosed locations.
The rebels claim to have destroyed at least two mounted pick-up trucks and captured many weapons and ammunition from the government troops.
Unity state has witnessed one of the worst devastation in the current conflict. While majority of the state officials have defected to SPLM/SPLA-IO, rebels have killed majority of the newly appointed government officials who have been assigned to Unity State.
