SPLM/A leaders and Representatives to the Republic of Kenya. .
August 21, 2015(Nyamilepedia) — In the interest of bringing peace back to the world’s youngest nation, the leaders of the Inter Governmental Authority for Development (IGAD) and the World’s leaders converged in Addis Ababa on Monday with hope to bring an end to the 20 months conflict in the country. The Chairman of the SPLM Dr. Machar, and the leaders of the former Detainees (FDs) plus all witnesses have signed. Yet, President Salva Kiir Mayardiit has defiant pressures exerted by the region and the international community and declined to sign his part in the accord. We in the in diaspora deplored Salva Kiir grave decision to extend the suffering of the people of South Sudan.
Furthermore, we passionately applauded Dr. Riek Machar Teny, the Chairman of the SPLM and Commander In Chief of the SPLA for demonstrating his regards for the welfare of people of South Sudan. In spite of Salva Kiir indecision, Dr. Machar signed the Igad-plus compromised peace proposal. Had Salva Kiir did not squandered the opportunity, the accord would have ended the war and bring the people of South Sudan one-step closer to a new beginning. Eventually, Salva Kiir will give in to the insurmountable pressure. However, the regime will use this extra time to carry out more attacks on rebel positions with an illusion to achieve peace through war.
As the world waited for Salva Kiir, who disdainfully snubbed the signing of the peace in front of the world’s leaders, the urgency to end the war now in South Sudan is paramount. Physically and mentally, South Sudanese people have had enough and they will no longer sustain yet another two weeks of suffering. We urge the region and the world to exert a tangible pressure on Kiir. The world should unite behind the internationally endorsed Igad-plus compromised peace proposal and declare the town of Pagak, the SPLM/A head quarters to be the official seat of the Transitional Government of National Unity (TGoNU).
On a lighter note, we the member of Sobat State Diaspora in the United States rejected in the strongest term, the irresponsible decision taken by Gen. Gatdet Yaka, Gat-Hoth Gatkuoth, and Gebriel Changson Lew Chang to break away from the resistance movement at the finish line.
We call on the generals not to aggravate the suffering of the people of South Sudan and choose the right path by rejoining the Resistance Movement. The window of opportunity to restore peace in South Sudan is now.
