September 14th 2019 (Nyamilepedia)-Amnesty International, a human rights defender, has formally commended the new Sudanese unity government and called for accountability and justice for the families of those who lost their lives during months of violent protests, which led to the overthrow of former Sudanese President Omar Hassan al-Bashir.

Speaking to the media on his first official visit to Sudan, Amnesty International Secretary General Kumi Naidoo expressed his appreciation to the Sudanese unity government for demonstrating its ultimate commitment to protecting human rights in the country.

“Amnesty International thanks the people of Sudan for showing us courage, for showing us resilience and for showing that we can resist injustice and violation of human rights,” said Kumi Naidoo during his visit to Sudan.

The human rights group said it will continue to stand in solidarity with the Sudanese people as they seek for justice and accountability for those affected by the violence in Khartoum.

“Amnesty International will back the Sudanese people in calling on the new government to ensure that there is absolute accountability and justice,” he pointed out.

In June, Sudan was gripped by violence after months of protests against former Sudanese President Omar al-Bashir, killing more than 250 protesters in the Sudanese capital, Khartoum.
